Beginings

Founding

The Museum of Science and Technology was founded in 1989 as a project (working organization) of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and other co-founders at the initiative of academician Aleksandar Despić with the aim of collecting, protecting, preserving and using cultural assets from the field of science and technology.

First steps

The building

After spending several years located at SANU premises and exhibiting at the Gallery of Science and Technology, the Museum acquired its own building — the former Belgrade Municipal Thermal Power Plant, which holds symbolic significance.

Permanent Exhibition

After the new building of the old power plant was (partially) adapted into museum space, the first exhibition in the new building was opened in the premises of today's depot and Aleksandar Despić Gallery.

Museum for all

Today, the museum offers a large number of interactive exhibitions and programs that attract visitors of all ages. The Museum of Science and Technology in Belgrade is one of the most popular museums in Serbia, and its educational value and entertaining approach to scientific and technological topics attract a large number of visitors from the country and abroad, which is confirmed by the NK ICOM Serbia Museum of the Year 2022 award.
