Community of Museums of Science and Technology was founded in 1991 as the result of initiative of the leading people from technical museums in Serbia, primarily professor Aleksandar Despić, the founder and long time president of the Community. The goal of the Community of Museums of Science and Technology is to bring together these specific institutions and improve their work. In 16 years of existence, this professional association was joined by 18 museums and collections, which today comprise a unique network.
The headquarters of the Community is located in the Museum of Science and Technology, which also performs all organizational and administrative activities. For the purpose of improvement of methodology of museum work on the protection of scientific and technical heritage, standards for the processing of technical cultural goods that are used in all museums of the Community have been developed at the Museum of Science and Technology. Results of the work of the museums of the Community are occasionally presented to general public through individual or joint exhibitions.
